RIFLE SHOOTING.
AKARANA CLUB.
Members of the Akarana Rifle Club fired ! their third series over the ranges of 500 yds and 600 yds at Penrose rifle range on Saturday for trophies presented by Messrs. F. \V. Coombes, E. J. C. Keston and J. R. Draffin, under ideal weather conditions. The final series will be fired on November 17. Silver spoons were won by A. W. Powell, A. M. Richardson and A. Sampson. The three top men in each section take 3, 2 and 1 points. Details of the shooting are as follows — ■ Mr. F. W. Coombes' Trophy.—A. W. Powell, 47 at 500 yds, 46 at 600 yds, total 93 ; A. C. Excellent weather conditions again favoured riflemen on Saturday, when 500 and 600 yards were shot, but the scores were not as high as usual. W. H. Thompson and T. Cutler won spoons in their respective grades, the latter winning very easily. With one shoot to go, the trophy points are :—A grade: H. L. Verrall 6, A. J. l'ieterson 5, J. A. Spry and W. H. Thompson 3, C. J. M. Clark 1. B grade : H. W. Cozens and M. H. Russell 5, T. Cutler 4, A. R. Mayhill, S. Griffiths, and N. S. Alexander 3, and H. W. Verrall 1. Results are :— A Grade. —W. H. The range will be closed next Saturday for military shooting, but will be available for 800 and 900 yards on the 17th inst., when the championship series will be continued. WHANGAREI CLUB. WHANGAREI, this day. Whangarei Rifle Club held its opening handicap shoot for the Norris Trophy, over the week-end. Ranges were 200 and 300. yards. S. C. Withers, Shooting with open sights, returned the useful score of 82 (plus 8 handicap), and has a leg in for the Willcocks trophy. Other good scores were: J. P. White, 88 ; J. Norris, 87 ; A. E. Willcocks, J. Harland, A. Foote, 86 ; Slade Clark, 83; Edge, 82.
