HALLOWE'EN CELEBRATIONS.

ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY'S EVENING.

Hallowe'en night was celebrated by the St. Andrew's Society in the Scots Hall on Saturday evening, when an operetta, "The Rose Dream," was presented. Ballets of fairies and elves supplied the supernatural element usually furnished by the terrifying ghosts associated with the occasion. The play, which was produced by Miss Lillian Braithwaite, was noteworthy for the clever work of the children who took part. The role of Hop o' My Thumb, an elf, was especially well played, the part being taken by Fay Thompson, while Rona Thompson's portrayal of Little Rose, a mortal who strayed into the land of the fairies, was well received. Leading parts were also takfen by Misses Lorna Andrew, Ruby Hardley, Margaret Johnston, Gladys Keefe and Betty Heyworth and Master Harold Greid. The ballets were arranged by Miss Gwenith McXaughton, and were danced by Misses Lorraine Cunningham, Elsie Shenkin, Katheline Reid and Billy Peterson. A clever contortion dance was that of little Joyce Hartwell. The elves ballet, consisting entirely of boys, was particularly well received. Enjoyable music was rendered, Miss Isa Campbell playing violin obligatos to the solos. Miss Braithwaite was congratulated on her production of the play by the president of the society, Mr. M. M. Millikin, and presented with a handsome manicure set. Supper followed the play, and afterwards a dance was held for adults.
