Soap rubbed on door hinges will prevent them from saueaking. To prevent sausages from bursting in cooking, prick them thoroughly and cook them slowly. Green vegetables should be boiled in salted boiling water with the lid off; potatoes with the li<i on

How long must an egg be boiled if it is wanted hard? Fifteen minutes. If longer is allowed there will be a green-ish-coloured rim round the yolk. A mixture of olive oil and common salt will remove stains from a polished table. Polish afterwards with a good chamois leather.

Add a little vinegar to the last rinsing water for silk. This does away with any possibility of soap being left in the garment, often the cause of silk rotting quickly. &

The white of an egg, mixed with either olive or castor oil, makes a soothing and healing application for a burn. i A J ake wiU not " stick " the tin is placed on a flannel wrung out in hot water for three minutes after leaving the oven.

Eggs covered with boiling water and allowed to stand for five minutes are more nourishing and more easily digested than eggs placed in bailing water and allowed to boil quickly for three minutes.
