BLUE CROSS HOME.

EXCELLENT S.P.C.A. SCHEME.

ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT NEW LYNN.

BOARDING HOME FOR DOGS

Auckland is to have a hospital for animals, the fitst of its kind in New Zealand.

Arrangements were completed at a special meeting of the executive of the local branch of the S.P.C.A., when it was deckled that a hospital and builirrngs costing about £1000 would be erected at New Lynn. Work on this new scheme will be started next week, and the hospital, which it is expected will be opened before Christmas, will be under the management of Mr. H. W. Carbury, M.R.C.V.S.

A brick hospital will be built, with an operating theatre and all the essentials for surgical work. The equipment will be much the same as that which is used In a hospital for human beings, and it is hoped that electric fittings will be installed, so that animals can be electrically treated. There will be two acres of ground, including exercise ing yards. The institution will also be a boarding home for dogs, so that if you want to go away for the holidays you can leave your dog at the hospital, where it will be looked after under the skilled eye of the "vet." Just how- elaborate the hospital will be eventually will depend largely on the finances of the S.P.C.A. The executive has many excellent schemes ior the erection of a thoroughly up-to-date hospital, but, with the limited money they have in hand, a comparatively small start will have to be made. If, through public subscriptions, their funds are swelled, then it is likely that the institution will be almost a model hospital. "The scheme is an excellent one," said Mr. Carbury enthusiastically this morning, "and all lovers of animals should be greatly pleased that such an institution has been started. I only hope that the public will give the society good support.'"
