Chandler, of Rotorua, left on Friday by the Ulimaroa to join the Otranto at Sydney, en route to Egypt and the Continent. • • • • Next Thursday the members of the Lyceum Club will be addressed at the luncheon talk by Mr. Archey, curator of the museum. • • • • Mr. and Mrs. William Elliot, of Epsom, arrived in Auckland yesterday after a holiday in England and the Continent. • • • • Mrs. Bud Fisher, wife of the celebrated creator of "Mutt and Jeff," who as the Countess de Beaumont was romantically married to the cartoonist aboard the Leviathan a few years ago, is to ask the Paris courts for a "complete" divorce. She already has a legal separation. ••• * „ Mrs. Wallis, widow of the late Bishop Wallis, at one time of Wellington, has arrived at Wellington. It is her intention to spend a few months' holiday in New Zealand. Mrs. Wallis was the founder of the Women Students' Hostel in Wellington, which has been established 21 years. • • • • A deputation of twenty-nine ladies, headed by Mrs. Hamid Ali, who is chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the All-India Educational Conference, waited on the Local Self-Government Minister of Punjab to urge upon him adequate representation for women on education boards, text-book committees, municipalities, public health, and other important bodies. • * • • The fifth edition of the Victoria League cookery book, entitled "Tried Recipes," will be most welcome to housewives. A large number of new and interesting recipes have been added to what was already an excellent collection, and a chapter on the use of electric and gas stoves should be of valuable assistance. A chapter on food in relation to health is supplemented by wholemeal and vegetarian recipes and, for mothers, suggestions on meal planning are given. The book is up-to-date, and is quite the best edition the Victoria League has issued.
