WORLD'S OUTPUT OF LEATHER
According to the statistics of various Government*:, the total production of sole leather in the world during 1927 was 1.205.500,0001b, which represents a substantial increase over the output during all preceding years. The increased production is world-wide, and almost all countries are now tanning sole leather in larger quantities. The larger output of this leather has made big foreign sales more difficult to transact, and most of the producing countries arc finding it exceedinly difficult to maintain or increase their export trade in leather for bottom stock purposes. The United States, the United Kingdom. Germany and France, in order named, are the largest producers of sole lr.ither, and these countries were responsible for more than o0 per cent of the total sole leather production in 1927. In I!MS the total production of this leather amounted to not more than 780,000.0001b. and the output in 1927 was more than 67 per cent greater. Consumption of this lea titer also has increased substantially since the close of the war, and according to reliable information, more sole leather i-; being consumed at present than ever before. Present indications point to a further improvement in the world producti'ni and consumption of sole in' near future.
