JACKIE AUDUBON.

GOES INTO SHAW'S STABLE. PURCHASED BY WELLIXGTONIAN"! (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. . The spring meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and .'Friday of next week, commencing each day at noon. As a result of a police prosecution some time ago it was ruled recently that the ticket selling windows in the stands at Addington were a breach of the law, because they were not connected with the totalisator building in any way. It is understood that the difficulty has been overcome by the installation of telephone communication, and the windows will again be opened. The rain of the. early morning kept most of the trainers away from Addington to-day, as it was anticipated that the track would not be open. The training" tr»ck was vety bad, and no work could be done on it. The race track, however, was opened at about 9 o'clock, but very few horses were worked on it. Little Logan worked a mile and a-half well on the outside of the track, and going right-handed the trotter got through, his task satisfactorily. Ariki, who looks well, was given slbw jogging work well on the outside of the track. Orphan and Dilnon did a mile and a-half together for the first round. The former had the inside going, but the order was changed for the second round. Both horses went well within their capabilities. Young Carbine and Lady Matchlight had a few breaks-away from the start-ing-point. The pacer has now become very quiet at the barrier. Young Carbine then worked a mile and threequarters. He went the first mile in good style, and then had to be driven hard, being evidently a lazy track horse. Just before the end of the journey he put in a break, and did not settle down again. Lady Matchlight worked a mile and a-quarter, but she was not asked to show her best speed, and she worked well out in the middle of the track. J. Shaw's team were' jogged in the centre of the training track, whilst Amaris was ridden around in the same place. The pacer Jack Potts, a nmchdiscussed candidate for the Trotting Cup, is suffering from the effects of an injury which occurred on Wednesday morning, and since then he has not been able to do any work, being under veterinary treatment. The trouble is not considered serious at present, but the horse will require careful attention for a day'or two in order to see how it develops. If it. becomes worse it will interfere with this programme at Addington next week. The purchase of the pacer Jackie Audubon was completed yesterday. Mr. J. W. Murphy, of Wellington, is the new owner, and Jackie Audubon will go into J. Shaw's stable in Auckland. Since he has been under J. J. Kennerley's care Jackie Audubon has made a lot of improvement, and he is considered one of the most promising of the improving pacers now in commission.
