——— MR. TAVERNER BEGINS WELL. i DUNEDIN, this day. The Mayor of" Dunedin, Mr. W. B. Taverner, "who is the United party's candidate for Dunedin South, had the distinction in opening his campaign of addressing the largest and most enthusiastic crowd seen at a political meeting so far in the present election. His supporters are hopeful that he will receive the bulk of Mr. T. K. Sidey's vote, but Mr. Sidey always had a big Labour vote, which, now that Mr. Sidey has retired, is more than likely to go to the Labour party's candidate, Mr. R. W. HalL However, the success of Mr. Taverner's opening meeting has made the contest more interesting, and it should be fought out between these two. ...-,. .
