HIGHER STATUS SOUGHT.

MOVEMENT IX PROGRESS

A movement is in progress in the One Tree Hill district to have the present road board district constituted a borough. The matter will come up for discussion at the next meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Boad. when a member, Mr. G. Clark, a former chairman of the road board, will move in accordance with notice of motion that the necessary steps to alter the status of the district shall be taken. A number of reasons are given whv a higher local body status should 'be souglit for the One Tree Hill district. It is pointed out by those in favour of the proposed change that were One Tree Hill a. borough there would be an additional revenue of £000 a year from the Government by way of petrol tax. that wider building by-laws would be possible, that the district would have a higher financial status, and that a number of legislative provisions, which are not applicable to road boards, could be taken advantage of to the general advantage of the district. " One of the supporters of the proposal ohansre said this morning that One Tree Hill had more than the necessary population to seek a higher local bodv status.
