"DRINKING EXPEDITION."
IN BLACKSMITH'S SHOP.
THREE WOMEN ARRESTED.
THE TRIO PROHIBITED.
"These three women were last night f ur.J by a constable in a blacksmith's shop near the Civic Square. They all come from the suburbs and wandered in there, on a drinking expedition," said Sub-inspector McCarthy about Winnie Molloy (42), Gertrude Molloy (25), and Jean Rowlings, alias Jean Fong, three women who filled the dock at the Police Court this morning. Each pleaded guilty to charges of having been found on enclosed premises without lawful excuse. "Whatever else you do with them, I would ask your Worship to prohibit these women," added Mr. McCarthy, "because they have been about the town drinking these last few days. The Molloys are mother and daughter. The mother is old enough to know better and certainly should show her daughter a better example. Jean Rowlings has also been before the Court before." Mr. Hunt convicted and ordered the women to come up for sentence within six months, while he also prohibited them. "Any further misbehaviour on your part will earn you each three months' imprisonment, so don't forget," were Mr. Hunt's parting words.
