MOUNT EDEN BATH POLL.

I would ask for a little space re the loan of £3500 for filtration plant for Mount Eden baths. In the first place, as a frequenter of the baths and a ratepayer of Mount Eden, I think I am correct in saying that the baths do not, and would not, in the future pay interest and sinking fund on the loan asked for, not to mention the capital cost of the baths. During January, ly*26. and 1927, I know that on a gi»od many mornings the takings from the few who attended would not have paid even the custodian's wages. The fact of the matter is that the baths are only used by a few nearby residents and the school children from Mount Eden School, with an occasional swimming carnival. When the Mayor and Mr. G. L. Taylor were advocating the first £100,000 loan for concrete roads they informed us that no increase of rates would be necessary, as the new houses and shops which were being, and would be, built would pay the interest and sinking fund on the loan. But the rates have gone up, the valuations have gone up, although the selling value is very much lower than when they asked for the loan. In fact in most cases the rate* have advanced from £2 to £3 per house in the Mount Eden Borough. PRO BOXO PUBLICO.
