A.I. A. Sβ WEST FORTY-FIFTH NEV* **■*] TEUCPHONC VANDEPBILT Zβ** 20th June, 1928 A PERSONAL LETTIR TO NEW ZEALAND. I believe that prohibition in the United States has set baok the cause of temperanoe for many years. Theoretically, prohibition has eliminated the saloon, but as a matter of fact, it has substituted the "speak-easy" which has all the ▼ices of the saloon, but none of its virtues. I think there is no question but what young people are drinking more and more hard liquor than was ever drunk before prohibition, and I believe that we have a long fight before us to seoure the real temperanoe in which we all believe. Whatever action the voters of New Zealand may take in the coming election, I trust that they will not attempt to seoure temperance by means of prohibition.
