HECKLING "THE WHIP."

INTERRUPTERS AT GREEN

MR. J. S. DICKSON'S MEETING

It was evident at the opening of the meeting of the Reform candidate, Mr. •7. S. Dickson, last night in the Green Lane picture theatre that a small section of the audience had attended with the object of interrupting, but everything wag good humoured.

There were two Dicksons on the platform, as the chairman was Mr. J. F. W. Dickson. An inquiry promptly came from the gallery: "Which Dickson is the candidate?" The chairman remarked that as Mr. J. S. Dickson had represented Parnell for 17 years he required no introduction, whereupon someone said in a sad voice, "Too long, too long," and another shouted, "We want to hear the other Dipkeon," to which the chairman replied: "So you shall."

The interruptions continued as soon as the candidate started his address. Mr. Dickson smiled broadly and said: "You are not going to put me off what I intend to say." When he remarked that about one-third of the Customs duty came from wines and spirits a voice broke in, "Isn't it overloaded ?" and another member of the audience countered by saying, "No, it's overproof!"

During a pause a quiet voice said: "The present Government should have a holiday," to which the candidate promptly replied: "No, not yet!"

When an interrupter shouted, "What about the immigrant?" Mr. Dickson replied: "He is just as good as you."

"There is not going to be any more war," someone shouted, when the speaker referred to the Singapore base. "We hope not," replied Mr. Dickson, "but We don't know and it is just as well to be prepared." A Voice: We are having another war now to live.

"Well," said Mr. Dickson, "you look well enough on it, I must say."
