"MOVIES" RIVALLED.

Fights At Cologne And

Casablanca.

POLICE v. BANDITS.

(Australian and NX Press Association.)

(Received 1.30 p.m.)

LONDON, October 21

Scenes rivalling the "movies" were enacted at Germany and Morocco daring the week-end. The first occurred at Cologne, when three desperate bank robbers defied capture. The police surrounded a house, and two suspects who emerged, were told to put up their hands. Instead they fatally shot with a revolver one constable and wounded another.

Reinforcements captured the pair, who were placed in a motor car, from which they escaped and, though wounded, kept up a running fight. They shot dead a motorist who refused them a lift, took the car and eluded the motors and motor cycles carrying the police.

The third suspect, meanwhile, exchanged shots from the house, but surrendered to superior forces.

The other event occurred near Casablanca when two merchants, Pomares and Jubiaga, tried to outdistance four mounted Moorish bandits whose rifle shot pierced their petrol tank and stopped the car.

Deciding that three prisoners were too many the Moors shot, in cold blood, the chauffeur and made the merchants doublebank on a pony.

A French official, named M. Bossier, pursued them in an armoured car but the Moors' deadly fire from the scrub killed M. Bossier. While the fight was at its height M. Pomares crawled to his rescuers. The Moors escaped with M. Jubiaga, plus a lot of loot.
