Channel And Gibraltar

Tunnels.

ALLURING PROSPECT.

(United Service.)

(Received 11 a.m.)

LONDON, October 21

By tube and train to Africa is the alluring prospect brought "within the bounds of possibility by schemes connecting Gibraltar with the opposite African shore.

This, according to a dispatch, is now being considered by the Franco-Spanish Governments, and if the proposals.fructify, British authorities will be asked to reconsider the suspended project of the Channel tunnel.

The Spanish Government particularly is considering two schemes. The first is being prepared by Colonel Don Pedro Javenois for a twenty-mile tunnel under the Straits costing £100,000,000, and the other has been prepared by Colonel Rubio Y. Belloe for a longer tunnel from the Bay of Vaqueros towards Tangier.
