GOLDEN WEDDING.

Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Smith, of 92, Church Street East, Oneliunga, have had two wedding breakfasts. The first was after they were married on October 19, 1878, at Wellington, and the second was last Saturday night, when they were entertained by their children and friends on the attainment of their golden wedding. The function was held in St. Peter's Parish Hall and attended by about 70 peopTe. The years have dealt lightly with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Born at Eltham, in Kent, England, Mr. Smith came to New Zealand when a young man in the ship Assage, arriving during Christmas week in 1874. Mrs. Smith was burn in County Tyrone, Ireland, and came here with her parents when she was a little girl. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Wellington. There are six children, four daughters and two sons, and 14 grandchildren. All the former were present at the wedding feast on Saturday night and some of the grandchildren. Mr. Smith spent the best years of his life in the sawmills at Aratapu, on the Northern Wairoa— about 35 yeare altogether. Mr, and Mrs. Smith left Aratapu in 1914 and have since lived in retirement at Onehunga. Mr. Smith has rendered valued service as a lay reader in the Church of England, and is now one of the oldest in that capacity in the Auckland diocese. After Mrs. Smith had cut the wedding cake on Saturday night they were presented with a pair of easy chairs and a gold-mounted fountain pen by their children.
