CIVIL SERVANTS AND POLITICS.

An attempt has been made by certain members of the Public Service Association in Christchurch to extort a rise in their salaries by threatening to vote against the Government at the elections. The president and executive of the Association have promptly repudiated the circular, issued unofficially with this object, and have dissociated themselves entirely from the movement. The action of the malcontent Public Servants is highly improper, as their organisation is supposed to be wholly non-political. Civil Servants enjoy special advantages, and they are debarred from attaching themselves to political or industrial organisations.
