The following figures indicate concisely the. steady advance .which Is resulting by-year from 1923 to 1928 inclusive. Numbar of blind on roQ on in5titute,7«,88,98,96,106, 112j wages and salaries paid-to Wind persons, £2123, £2812, . £3008,£4903, £5358, £0028; amount of State! pensions paid to blind workers through institute office, £581, £2844, £3088, £3811; sales of goods produced, £2108, £2011, £3519, £4531, £5835; £7828. - The increased number of .people at the instibhe,.frm 78 to 112, is not a result of any increase in the total number of blind in the community, but of active following tip of every blind person in New-Zealand to see whether they could not 1 benefit by the training and employmentwhkhthe institute offers.
. : On March 31,1928, the trustees had am fife the full details of 878 cues of blindness, whieh they considered covers with very fewexceptkms the whole of the blind community. Though there h insufficient statistical evidence to base any eonelugiou on. the trustees an of the opinion that in general the incidence of blindness in the Dominion is on the deerease,andaacribe the result prienipallv to ; the increasing skill of opthalmie surgeons andtothegeneral improvement in medical practice.
