ACCEPTED "LIFT" IN CAR.

FATAL SKID AND CAPSIZE.

TE AWAMUTU, this day,

Maurice Rhodes, a farmer, of Ngahape, was killed to-day in a motor accident on the Main South Road about six miles south of Te Awamutu.

With an employee named Sampson, Rhodes left his farm in a motor truck. After going a few miles he stopped the truck because of a punctured tyre. Not having a spare tyre the men abandoned the truck and accepted a ride in a car driven by Mr. G. Bell. They had not gone half a mile wTien the car skidded in metal, ran to the side of the road, and fell over a slight embankment.

Rhodes' skull was fractured, the left side of his chest was crushed and his ribs were broken. He died a few minutes after he had been admitted to a private hospital in Te Awamutu. Sampson had an ankle joint sprained. Bell was not hurt.

Rhodes, whose parents reside in Otoroi M§ a ' WaS a Dlarried man with one child, aged five years. He was twentynve years old.
