CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

A QUIET DAY.

COMPETITIONS IN THE BAIN,

DUNEDIN, Thursday.

The New Zealand golf championship tournament was continued at Balmacewan to-day in incessant rain. Fortunately it was an off-day as far as the championship contests were concerned.

In the play-off of the tie on the firßt bogey handicap D. C. Jolly beat K. W. Robinson.

In the afternoon the players competed for a stroke handicap, which resulted in a tie between J. R. Laidlaw and J. C. Shand with net scores of 76.

The driving competition scheduled for to-day was postponed until to-morrow.

In the play-off for the first stroke match between J. W. Trewern and F. L Dawson, the former won with a net score of 90.

The rain did not cease all day. In consequence the course is sodden, and there is water on many of the greens. The semi-final of the amateur championship and the final of the professional contest are scheduled for to-morrow, but unless there is a cassation of rain to-night the course will be almost unplayable. Whan play is resumed under altered conditions it may upset calculations.

In the semi-final of the amateur contest K. Ross (Otago) plays T. H. Horton (Masterton), and J. L. Black (Otorohanga) plays J. G. Duncan (Wellington). The final for the professional title is between A. J. Shaw (Napier) and J. D. Mcintosh (Gisborne).

AKARANA LADIES' CLUB.

The best cards returned in the sealed handicap competition were as follows:— Mrs. Mueller, 41; Mrs. McCarthy, 41; Miss Parr, 43; Mrs. Ellis, 44; Mrs. Grant, Miss P. Peet, Miss Young, Miss McGee, 45. The C grade match waß won by Mrs. Sinclair. A fou-ball, best-ball bogey match will be played to-morrow, players to be drawn at the clubhouse. It has been decided to hold closing day on November 2, with the usual foursomes, driving, putting and approaching.

EVERSLIE CLUB

A bogey match for the acting-captain's trophy will be played to-morrow. Following is the draw:—Hogan v. Agmen-Smith, B. O'Neill v. Wardell, Dykes v. Chapman, Beechey v. Bice, Rhind v. J. O'Neill, Lov* grove v. Goddard, Lever v. Richardson, Parker v. McDonald, Findlay v. T. G. Smith, G. F. Page v. A. N. Other, B. Busing v. Wilson.

The club will hold its official closing on Monday. A medal match will be held in the morning, commencing at 9 o'clock, for which post entries will be received. In the afternoon mixed Canadian foursomes will be played, after which the presentation of prizes to the winners of the various matches throughout the season will be made.

MISS CHRYSTALL WINS

WELLINGTON LADIES' TITLE

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

In the Wellington ladies' provincial golf championship final to-day Mlts D. ChrystaU (Christchurch), the present New Zealand champion, beat Miss Petrie (Wellington), 2 up. Miss Petrie led in ' tho early stage, but Miss Chrystall was 1 up at the turn. The holes from the tenth to the seventeenth, inclusive, were halved, and Miss ChrystaU won the eighteenth and the match.
