NOTES FROM TE AROHA.

J. Eva has received a trainer's license from the Racing Conference. He has had plenty of experience with horses, and has given evidence of being thoroughly competent in putting them through proper preparations. The Chesterfield gelding Hangawera is now working on the local tracks. He is in good racing condition, but may not stand up to solid work when the tracks become harder. He is engaged in the Waimai Hurdles at Te Rapa at the minimum weight. In the Trial Stakes at the Waikato meeting Te Aroha will have four contestants, Black Maire, Indolent, Taumai and Ah Wera. The two latter may not be ready to run out the six furlongs, while Indolent is now showing improvement every week. He is a somewhat slow starter,' which may be against him in a big field. Black Maire has been doing well in his track work, and is the mostly, likely of the quartet to run prominently. The Marble Arch mare in C. E. Mallowes' team is shaping up nicely, but may not be required to race for some months. t

| Mr. R. B. Hines has his two Waikato entrants in good trim. Queen Arch seems to be none the worse for her recent racing, whjle Waltzer, who was eased up. after the Marton trip, will soon be back again to his beet form. Yesterday morning the track work was interesting, but a heavy gale made a difference to the times in which the sprints were done. William of Orange and Lucky Alic*< executed slow work twice Tound on the- plough. Black Maire and Indolent were associated over five furlongs. The former got a break on at the start, but Indolent gradually made up the leeway and finished right up in 1.5. Ruffles and Orchus were allotted good working tasks. Valkon and Taumai went five furlongs in 1.5. Valkon moved lazily, and Taumai was with him all the way. Love Call' and Te Keroke ran four furlongs in 535, the former finishing a couple of lengths to the good, Te Keroke's rider having broken a stirrup leather early in the sprint. Upoko, looking very fresh and well, did better than half pace work, and Glen Star went once round on the plough. The hunter, Every Day, who is engaged at Cambridge, trotted twice round and sprinted half a-mile in 555. era showed plenty of dash in a short sprint. Tea Time and Nancy Lee took 1.5 for five fnrlongs. The former was first out, and led by over a length for four furlongs'. Nancy Lee got close ... finish, but neither horse was ridden right out.
