RACING NEWS.

NOTES FROM WAIKATO.

THE COMING MEETING

There was rain in Hamilton over the greater part of yesterday. The track at Te Rapa will be holding to-morrow as the outcome.

Macroom waa beaten by Oration in a gallop over five furlongs at Te Rapa yesterday morning. The Archiestown— Lady Gwendoline mare is usually a good track worker and it was a bit surprising to find her not putting the customary vim into the finish.

Miss New Zealand has been doing her recent work under Phil Brady's charge at Te Rapa. The Nassau-Mountain Dream mare is not engaged on the opening day at Te Rapa, but is to take part in the Members' Memorial at the Hunt meeting.

Mangani has had a change of trainers this season. The Day Comet gelding, who is engaged in the Hurdles at Te Rapa to-morrow, has been schooling well lately. N. Syme, a brother of the local owner-trainer, will ride Mangani. Mint Leaf has been doing well in his track work since he reached Te Rapa in the early part of the week. The Catmint horse was doing it nicely in covering seven furlongs in 1.38 3-5 yesterday morning. He won the Cup last year with 7.1, but the journey is two furlongs less this time.

Oration was galloped with Regent on Tuesday morning when the latter was no use to the Cicero horse. Yesterday morning he disposed of Macroom, and could have bettered the 1.9 it took him to run five furlongs. Oration, who won the sprint event on the opening day of last year's spring fixture, promises to be a hard horse to dispose of on Saturday. Infante is to make a further attempt to earn stake money. The Quia Abbey gelding is looking well, but it appears too much to expect him to come back.

Stormy has not been doing as well of late in his schooling aa to expect him to be in at the finish of the hardies tomorrow. The stable apprentice, F. Quin. will ride him.

Berinthia would always muster up a lot of speed on the flat. The Mountain Knight mare, who is under A. Jackson's care at Te Rapa, has done well in her schooling efforts for a beginner at the hurdling game. The latter part of the journey may find her wanting, however.

Wenday was too good for Bright Day in a seven furlong spin at Te Rapa yesterday. The pair are engaged in the Highweight to-morrow, and indications point to Wenday being in front of her local rival at the post. It is very doubtful, however, if she is forward enough as

Archette, a maiden in F. Tutchen's stable, has been hitting out nicely on the tracks. The Archiestown mare, a six-year-old, is related to the hurdler, Archibald, and runs in the same interests. Always, who is engaged in the Clarkin Hack Handicap to-morrow, has got through a lot of work. The Day Comet— Nowena gelding is well, and the company opposed to him to-morrow cannot be termed select.

There is a good word from Te Awamutu track watchers about Awamutu, who is down to race in the Tamahere Stakes. Awamutu, who is in F. Loomb's team, is by King Lupin from Queen Ripple.

Warner will ride Gala Day tomorrow in the hurdles. This will be the first start of the Quin Abbey—Bell Crispin gelding over the battens. He is a well-built sort for jumping, hut his schooling has not been uniform by any means. -

Komak has been well beaten by Glena Bay on the two latest occasions the pair have galloped. It was a five-furlong effort each time.

Flying Juliet, if her latest track work is any guide, is in great condition for racing. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings this week she was sent three iurlongs, and was doing it comfortably inside 40s each time.

Transformer, when galloped with Mint Leaf and King Smock yesterday morning, while easily held by Mint Leaf, was coming again at the finish. It was the best track effort Transformer has put up locally this season. Dalston, who is to have his first race in the Stakes at Te Rapa to-morrow, is a half-brother to Stormy. The Chief Ruler—Gipsy Martian colt is a well-built youngster, but on the green side so far as preparation for racing is concerned. Foreign Fancy was in front of her stable mate Mervette in a six-furlong spin yesterday morning. The former was doing her work nicely, and she will warrant some friends in the Trial Stakes to-morrow.

Mervette is in fairly advanced condition for racing, as she has been in work tor the past couple of months. The Lucullus—-Brayton mare does not act so v t r,? round is too bad, but it will only be holding to-morrow. wen a^ b S' u Ki Bhould I,andle himself ? in the hurdles at Cambridge, where he will be ridden by R. C . Syme. The JV interboume gelding has been jumping faultlessly, while he has hit out well when galloped on the tracks this week soft egent TJ° €S u n ° t u, lnind the being »oft. The Marble Arch gelding has been putting some dash intohis work on the tracks and if there is to be a sur 1 " fPrbt t0 — "ay

Frater has been giving trouble with one of his legs this week. If the Raceful —Miss Roseland gelding goes to the post in the Stakes to-morrow R. McTavish will ride him. ( ' a y Duke will be ridden in the Tamahere Stakes by the stable apprentice, O. Mclnally. This is the Lord Quex —Salyette gelding, who oost 22dg» at Trentnam sales. He is a nice worker on the track, but will require time. .. ,

King Smock has reached Te Rapa from ij" 168 ' Snow King—Lady Smock ge.ding was beaten by Mint Leaf and rans.ormer in a seven-furlong gallop 2? J mor " in 8- King Smock has done well on-the coursa in the past, but s meeting better Company to-morrow.
