EGGS STILL CHEAP.
VEGETABLES IN ABUNDANCE.
POTATOES GETTING CHEAPER
There have been full supplies of apples, pears and citrus fruits at the marts this week. These have met a fairly good demand at about late rates. Lemons have eased in price, but bananas are still scarce and dear. Canadian apples are now being offered, but the quantity to band is not large. A few early strawberries have made their appearance on the stands, but the quality is indifferent. Prices have been from 1/3 to 2/ per chip. Latest selling i rates are as follow:—
Apples; Stunners, 6/6 to 8/6 per case; Delicious, 5/6 to 8/6; Dougherty, 5/6 to 8/1 Granny Smith, 12/ to 13/6; Pride of Australia, a/ to 8/6; Rome Beauty, 6/ to 8/6; Canadian, 14/ to 16/. Pears: Nellis, repacks, 10/ to 12/; Coles, repacks, 9/ to 10/; Josephine, repacks, 8/ to 10/; P. Barrys, 8/ to 9/. Oranges: Island, repacked, 14/ to 24/, according to sizes; Poorman, 6/ to 7/. Lemons, local, 6/ to 12/j tomatoes, hothouse, 1/ to 1/6 per lb; tomatoes. Cook Island, 7/ to, 10/ per case; bananas, repacked (scarce), 24/ to 27/; mandarins, 12/ to 16/; grapes, Californian, white, in barrels, 14/ to 20/; Californian, white, in cases, 10/ to 14/; Californian, ted, 21/ to 28/ per barrel; tree tomatoes, specials, 10/ to 12/; small, 5/ to 7/; passions, special Australian, 20/ to 25/; green, local, 8/ to 10/; pines, Fiji, 14/ to 15/; loquats, local, 2/ to 5/. Vegetables. The marts are abundantly supplied with green vegetables just now and housewives are able to purchase these at prices which to compensate for the high values ruling for potatoes. Following the wholetfile trend southern potatoes have eased ip price and there has also been a lowering in the price of new locals, which are DOW coming to hand in large quantities from Pukekohe and suburban districts. The market has been absolutely glutted With lettuce, values for which are very low. Green peas are offering more freely and toe price has dropped. Latest quotations are:—
Potatoes, southern, 12/6 to 13/6 per cwt; new, No. 1, heavy supply, 2%d to 3d per lb{ Now 2, Id to l%d; onions, 35/ rffep crate; kumaras, Island, 14/ to 17/ per cwt; Tauranga, 20/; cabbage, 3/ to 11/ per sack; cauliflower, 3/ to 11/; swedes, 3/ to o/i pumpkins, 15/ to 24/ per cwt; green pea®, 4d to 6d per lb; beans, 1/ to 1/8 per lb; lettuce, market glutted, 6d to 2/6 per case; cucumbers, 3/ to 7/ per dozen; cabbage, on benches, 1/6 to 5/ per dozen; cauliflower, on benches, 2/ to 8/6; celery, 6d to 1/6 per bundle; rhubarb, 2/6 to 4/ per dozen; spinach, 1/ to 1/6; pumpkins, on benches, 1/6 to 5/ each; spring onions, 3d to 9d per bundle; radish, 6d to 9d per dozen; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 1/ to 2/; asparagus, 9d to 1/6 per bundle; leeks, 3d to 6d. Butter and Eggs. There have been plentiful supplies of eggs at the auction marts this week and no improvement in values. Latest quotations are: Hen eggs (full size), 1/1 to 1/2 per dozen; intermediate, 1/; ducks', lOd to 1/. I
Farmers' butter is meeting a moderate demand at 1/ to 1/3 per lb.
