RUGBY IN AFRICA.

OTAGO PLAYER'S VIEWS.

PLAYERS GOOD, BUT STYLE NOT IMPRESSIVE. PREFERS NEW ZEALAND FORMATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. Speaking at a social gathering in his honour, Mr. Jack Hore, the Otago forward who visited South Africa with tHe All Blacks, said they had some great players in South Africa, every bit as good as ours, and exceedingly keen in their practices and training. Most of the South African players worked on fcjrms, and travelled long distances .to play in matches. '"They are born with a plough in one hand and a football in the other," he said. They always played for the

game's sake, but their style of play was not impressive.

In the third Test the All Blacks pleased the people very much with their style of play, and he would not like to see any alteration In the New Zealand rules. The All Blacks tried various scrum formations, but found the 2—3—2 formation was most effective when weight was put into the scrum. He would not like to see a change in the scrum formation, but he would like to 3ee the wing forward done away with.

When asked how the University team played at Capetown, he replied that it played the open game, the same as played in New Zealand. The All Blacks' last match, played with Capetown University team under New Zealand rules, was a treat to watch, and impressed the Capetown people so much that there was talk of changing their rules.

When asked i bout the half-backs, Dalley and Kilby, Hore spoke of them as brilliant players.. When the team was first being selected he was of opinion that Holden was the best halfback in New Zealand, but he was convinced now that the selectors had chosen the right players for that position. Both played with remarkable skill and werej big assets to the team.
