WIND VELOCITY TESTED.
AO MILES AN HOUR AT 6000 FT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Observers of the weather were not •anguine on Saturday about the flight being made that night. Durirtg Saturday morning a balloon test was made by the magnetic observatory, and it was found that, although the wind was light on the ground level, there was a high wind velocity at a low altitude, and at 6000 ft a 60-mile-an-hotir gale was blowing. Beyond that height the velocity diminished, but at ll.nOOft the velocity was 45 miles an h"ur. The direction was west bv north.
