AUCKLANDER APPOINTED
POSITION AT DUNEDIN. MR. J. A. DUNNING'S RETURK. RECOLLECTIONS of oxford. Mr. J. A. Dunning, of Auckland, •who was Rhodes scholar for New Zealand in 1925, has been appointed to a position as resident master at the John McGlashan College, Dunedin. During his three years at Oxford Mr. Dunning graduated B.A. with honours in mathematics, and took part in cricket matches against the counties, just failing to get his "blue" against Cambridge. He travelled several times on the Continent, his longest journey being to Rome, where he was the only New Zealand delegate to an international student conference.
Mr. Dunning said, to-day that Mr. Ronald Syuie, who formerly held a position as assistant lecturer in classics at the Auckland University College, had a brilliant scholastic career, winning many scholarships and prizes. Mr. Syme had spent a term this year studying in Germany in order to "further his researches in ancient history. Mr. C. E. Low, of Canterbury, who was awarded a Rhodes scholarship in 1920, had passed his B.A. with 'honours in modern languages. Mr. W. (i. Kalaugher, of Auckland. who was a freshman last year, secured his athletics "blue" early, and had also showed much improvement on his Auckland form in cricket.
