ABOUT TEX RICKARD.
WHAT JACK HEENEY SAYS. "What impression did you fprm about Tex Rickard?" Jack Heeney was asked. "Well, Tex Rickard runs the whole show over there," replied Jack. "He does things in a thoroughly businesslike way; he is a good business man, and his word is his bond. You don't need to have everything in black and white with him. He also has a big staff of Press writers." Discussing Tom's period of training before the big fight with Tunney on July 26, Jack said that the heat was terrific. "It was that bad that it would almost burn you Up and take the whole soul case out of you. If I had been Tom I would never have done so much training in the hot weather," he said. Tom's brother said that he and his other two brothers had ringside seats for the fight. But these were twenty-six rows back from the ring—so far that they could not hear the words of the announcer. In Tom's corner were his manager and trainer.
