The National Council of Women are holding a meeting at the YAV.C.A. 011 Monday evening to welcome the New Zealand and Australian delegates, who have been attending the. Pan-Pacific Conference of Women at Honolulu. The. matter of the alleged utterances of one of the delegates reflecting on the womanhood of this country, which was cabled to Australia and thence to New Zealand, will be discussed. » * « * Tho Bayswater-Bclmorit Women's Society held its monthly meeting in the clubhouse, Bayswater, on Thursday afternoon, when there was a fair attendance. After the usual business had been discussed, Mr. J. Ross Thomson gave an interesting address on the future prospects of New Zealand as compared with to-day. Afternoon tea was served and a vote of thanks passed for the speaker. Mrs. Pigott, of Kemuera, entertained n number of youthful guests to a morning birthday tea party at Milne's Tudor Rooms yesterday. Caps and favours were distributed among the little ones. The table was prettily arranged in large bowls of red dahlias. Among those who attended were: Lenore Pigott, Juliet Pope, Bobby Pope, Pauline Woodroffle, Audrey Woodrolle, J. A meeting of the Otuhuhu branch of tho Mothers' Union was held on Thursday at St. Mary's Church, Otahuhu. Dr. Buckley Turkington spoke of the work being done by the women in public life. The recent conference in Honolulu was indicated as an effort made to enable representative "women from countries bordering on the Pacific to discuss problems of education, health, social service, etc., so that a common level of ideas might be reached. The speaker then spoke of the urgency of certain measures which would assist mothers in New Zealand, such as the need of the cliair of midwifery to improve tho training of students and nurses and help to tackle the big problem of maternal ■ mortality. A morning tea is being given at the Lyceum on Monday morning to welcome the delegates who have been attending the Van-Pacific Conference at Honolulu. * A most enjoyable bridge party was given by Mrs. i. J. Marshall at her residence, Morrinsviile, to farewell Mrs. C. McDavitt, -who is leaving Morriusville to reside at Auckland. The first prize wa< won iy Mrs. McDavitt, the secret number prize by Mrs. Necdham, and tiie consolation by 'Mrs. C. McKay. A meeting of Auckland Women's branch of the labour party was held 011 Thursday at the Trades' Hall, Mrs. Soljak presiding. Iti reply t<> the branch's resolution urging that, owing to the serious divergence of scientific opinion the passage of the Mental Defectives Bill into law be delayed until further consideration hits been devoted to its provisions, a letter was received from the Minister of Health stating that the bill was under consideration by a special Parliamentary Committee. The matter, however, he considered so urgent that the bill cannot possibly be delayed. The final accounts in connection with the juvenile fancy dress ball held recently under the auspices of the women's branch proved that the function had been very successful financially as well as artistically. A letter from the headquarters of the Women's International League at Geneva announced that the next International Congress will be held at Prague next July and invited the branch to send delegates, and also send remits for consideration. A successful dance was held last evening in St. Mary's Hall, the object being to provide funds for the St. Stephen's Maori Girls' School scholarship. Bamboo foliage, lilies and Oriental lanterns made attractive decorations. The stage was prettily dressed in pot plants and spring flowers. Miss Jean Macindoe's orchestra provided excellent danco fare.
