ENTENTE CORDIALE.

Arrival Of Commonwealth Cruiser At New York.

HOSPITALITY RETURNED?

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) NEW YORK, August 23.

The "New York American" says: No American will ever forget Australia's welcome to the United States fleet three years ago. It had more behind it than politeness or a gesture of diplomacy. It rose to the dignity of an ovation.

What will be especially interesting will be the response of the people of New York in their welcome to the cruiser Australia. They are usually kindly to seamen under any flag. Will they instinctively show to these men from the opposite side of the globe tfae same enthusiasm of greeting which the people of Australia showed to the American sailors in 1925? We hope so, for that would not only be fitting in courtesy but also profoundly significant.

It would advertise the essential oneness of two lusty branches of the white race, and would be in itself a powerful incentive to peace.
