TALENTED AUCKLANDERS.

COMPETITIONS CONTINUED. HIGH STANDARD OF PERFORMANCES. IMPROMPTU SPEECH TO-NIGHT. While in some sections the performers ! did not vary their turns and numbers sufficiently, the standard set by Auckland com petitione in. the past was maintained when the annual festival was continued at the Embassy Theatre yesterday afternoon and evening. Particularly delightful were the classes that gave 6cope for juvenile expression, the self-possession of some of the diminutive performers being something of a revelation. Owing to unexpected hitches the programme was not dispatched with the utmost expedition, but, when the elimination contests were resumed this morning, the bulk of the difficulties had been overcome and everything was workmg smoothly under the direction of the energetic stage manager, Mr. J. N. Hines. The judges of the various events are: Dancing, Miss Madeline Vyner, Wellington; elocution, Professor Maxwell Walker, Auckland; music,. Mr. Charles Kerry, Wellington. The official accompanists are Miss Theo Halpin and Mr. Eric Bell. Features of to-day's programme are the mezzo-soprano solo (open), "Oh, Ship of My Delight," operatic solo (gentlemen), own aeltction, contralto solo (open), "Life is a Caravan," and the impromptu speech, which has attracted fair entries and should not be without its usual humorous touches. Additional results are as follow: — SPANISH DANCE (under 16).
