DICKENS FELLOWSHIP.

«FAVOURITE CHARACTERS." LARGELY ATTENDED MEETING. A record in attendance for the Auckland branch of the Dickens Fellowship was created at the fortnightly meeting held last evening in the Y.W.C.A. Business Girls' Clubroom, Union Buildings. The Rev. Jasper Calder was in the chair, and there were present about ninety members and friends. The evening was devoted to " Favourite Characters." The chainnan referred to the work which Dickens had done for England. He expressed pleasure at the progress of the branch and the good work that it is doing in inculcating a lore for Dickens. The characters dealt with in the form of lecturettes and readings were:— "Abe Magwitch," the president, Rev. A. B. Chappell; "Micawber," Mr. C. C. McAdam; " Joe Gargery," Mrs. Kenneth iGordon; "David Copperfield," Mr. T. Clarkson; "Nicholas Niekleby," Mrs. C. Culpan; "The Cherryble Brothers," Mr. IF. Howard; "Wemmick," Mr. G. G. [Grant; "Fagin," Mr. J. E. Green; "Lawrence Boythorne," Mr. C. Kidson; I" Traddles," Mrs. Preston Chambers; ["Quilp," Mr W. M. Lusty; "Mr. Pegigotty," Mr. Preston Chambers; "Mrs. Gummidge," Mrs. J. D'Authreau.
