OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd) and Councillors T. Clements, H. J. Hall, H. Wills, J. T. de Montalk, G. V. Pearce and H. R. Linkhorn. Insanitary Chinese.—The sanitary inspector reported on the insanitary condition of the Chinese in Fairburn Road. The council upheld the inspector's report. Highways Subsidy.— Tn response to an appeal from the Levin Borough Council for the six local bodies most adversely affected by the refusal of the Main Highways Board to subsidise work done prior to the Highways Act, to meet the Minister of Public Works in Wellington, the Mayor was deputed to represent the council. Free Kindergarten.—An appeal was made by the local kindergarten for financial assistance, which was deferred pending further information. Fire Brigade.—The Fire Brigade sought instructions re rendering assistance outside the district. The council resolved that when the call comes from a neighbouring fire brigade and not from irresponsible persons the local brigade may comply. Motorists' Camp.—The matter of setting aside a portion of the borough to act as a motorists' camp was refe-rcd to the Parks Committee for a re Dedication of Roads. council agree to take over the the Sturges Estate on a bon ,00 to ensure that the roads \vi inished within nine months, and that ~.e reserve near the Nixon monument be transferred to the council forthwith. Taxi Stand.—lt was resolved to provide a taxi stand for six cars on the northwest side of Hali Avenue. Parking of Cars.—A by-law is to be passed fixing a time limit of 30 minutes for the parking of cars in the Great South Road between Station Road and Fairburn Road between the hours of 8 a m and 9 p m on Fridays, and the hours of 8 a.m and 6 p.m. on all other davs of the week. *
