LAND COMPENSATION.

SECTION AT CHELTENHAM. CLAIM AGAINST COUNCIL. The hearing of the compensation claim of Richard Willoughby Duder and the executors of the estate of the late R. H. Duder (Mr. G. P. Finlay and Mr. Allan Moody) for £2001 against the Devonport Borough Council (Mr. E. J. Prendergast) was continued yesterday afternoon and this morning. Mr. Justice Blair was on the Bench, and associated with him as assessors were Mr. T. Lamont, for the council, and Mr. C. F. Bennett, for the claimants.

The claim referred to a section at the north end of Cheltenham Beach which had been taken by the council for the purposes of a reserve. After counsel's addresses had been heard this morning the Court retired to consider the evidence. The Court this afternoon awarded the claimants £400 in full compensation, and fixed each a separate fee at £30, each side to pay their own costs.
