EMPIRE FORESTRY.
Distinguished Experts Meet At Perth. TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND. PERTH, August 22. Delegates from all parts of the Empire have assembled at Perth for the opening to-day of tlie th,srd British Empire Forestry Conference. It will be continued in all the Australian States and in New Zealand, and will last until October 23. The delegates number 87. They include representatives from Canada, India, North Borneo and Nigeria. Much time will be devoted to visiting forestry reservations and plantations in all the Australian States. Subsequently the delegates will visit Canberra, where the main section of the conference will be held from September 26 to October 2.
Discussions have been arranged upon forest products, testing, seasoning, tree preservation. fire protection and other educational phases. The delegates will sail by the Maungauui for New Zealand on October 4. Many distinguished forestry experts have foregathered, including Lord Clinton, chairman of the British Forestry Commission, Sir William Furse, director of the Imperial Institute, London, Professor Troup, director of the Imperial Forestry Institute, Oxford, and high forestry authorities from Canada, South Africa and Burma. The Hon. O. J. Hawken, Commissioner of State Forests, will represent New Zealand.
