MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB. AMALGAMATION OF CLUBS DEFEATED. COMBINED RACING FAVOURED. A mutter of considerable interest to owners of yachts and launches on the Manuka u came up for discussion last evening, when members of the Manukau Cruising Club met in the Orphans' Hall. Onehunga, to consider a notice of motion having for it 9 object the amalgamation o£ the present two clubs operating on the western harbour. The motion to amalgamate was lost, but a subsequent motion to arrange a limited number of combined races was carried. Mr. J. Keegan. president, said members were called together to consider a very vital matter affecting the welfare of their club and the sport on the Manukau. The older club had suggested an amalgamation, and he hoped members would deciden now for or against the proposal. * Mr. K. Barnes moved : "That this club amalgamate with the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club." to his motion, he said that it was in the best interests of their sport that the two clubs should combine. With two clubs there was wasted effort, and at times not sufficient boats to make racing a success. After all, he said, it was the boat owners who should have first consideration in any jacht club. The older club was able to offer them the advantages of a fine clubhouse, free of debt, and a combined membership would assist the sport very much. If they remained apart, members must be prepared to face the (ltiestion of building a clubhouse. He felt sure the older club was quite sincere in . desire to amalgamate, and he hoped members would :iccept the olive branch offered them. Terms or conditions could be discussed later.

Mr. R. Barnes, jun.. supported the motion, and stressed the advantages of class racing with a combined fleet. If there Had been any feeling over the matter it should not continue, he said. Messrs T. Lloyd and R." Inglis spoke I-?... k ! ,not . l " n - They said the Cruising Club had been formed by members who had broken a way from the old club, and they still thought there was room for both.
