Patuki has broken down and it is stated that lie may not race again. Reports irmn Hastings state that he was in a bad way last week.

Nadarino was successful in winning the.second division of the Belmont Purse', aix furlongs;at a West Australian meeting earlier iri the , present month.

Episode continues to go along all right in her work at Wapganni and the other morning, in company with Mask, covered six furlongs in 1.17.

The Auckland rider George Holland, who do<» a fair amount of track riding at Ellerslie, will nios>t likely be on Miwtcr. Arch in his engagements at the Dannevirke meeting which takes place next week.

Good reports are to hand concerning the condition of Good Sport, and the Polydamon gelding i<s expected to run prominently at the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club meeting at the end of the present week.

Since being recommissioned by P. Gilchrist the bay gelding Winsome Boy has done particularly well and bearfl a very aolitl appearance. He will be given a race on the second day of the Avondale meeting.

Discourse, by Gasbag from Ladify, showed a good turn of speed last season, winning four races and being second on Ave other occasions. He has not raced since the atitumn, but is engaged at the Marton meeting. ™

Desert Song, a two-year-old gelding by Hunting Song from Trebelli, showed out as a promising youngster in the two-year-old parade held at Riccarton last Saturday. He is a half-brother to Finelli, Finora and Will Oakland.

A. Heath, a light-weight jockey attached to S. Hodge's ■stable, does a fair share of the track riding at the Avondale centre. He can go to scale at about seven stone and will do most of the stable riding during the pre»>ent season.

As a two-year-old Moorgas displayed useful form by capturing a couple of races at that age. The son of Gasbag end is due to make his first appoarancd *ia>a three-year-old at the Marton meeting, where he will contest races among the hack class.

Abisogne and Plimihcrton, who raced prominently at the' Gisborne meetings, are doing well in their wo*#aTHastings," and on Saturday ran half a $nije together in 51 1 -ss. Borth witi be seen out at early spring meetings and have recent form to commend them.

Though Lochson will be a starter in the open spript fit the coming Taranaki Hunt Club meeting it is unlikely that he will be seftn iifi action ait the Marton or Wanganui meetings, as* his owner is desirous of giving him a chance of earning distinction aver the big country later on.

Kinross, a three-year-old by Psychology, is pjeasing the track watchers in his work at Hastings, and it is expected he will break his maiden status very soon. Last season he was third in a fivefurlong event at Hawke's Bay in his first start and ran unplaced in his subsequent efforts.

Baha-dur, who wa« taken to the Gisborne meeting and ricked himself on the eve of that fixture, was walking quite sound again when ho arrived back at Avondale. The Lucullns gelding i«s being qualified as a hunter just at present and will be seen out lafcje-i* on in jumping events confined to that class.

Waltzer is evidently to be given a further opportunity to make good over hurdles, for his name figtire*! in the list of horses engaged in „the Rata Hurdle Race, to be run at the Marton meeting. Latest reports from Te Aroha credit Waltzer with showing marked improvement in bis schooling essays and it should not be long before he makes good over the battens. With 9.11 to carry in the race referred to, he should put up a creditable showing.

C. .Jackson's team, Vivo, Partaga and Benzore, will resume work on the regular tracks this week (reports the "Hawera Star"). These horses have gone through a course of preliminary work which will be of decided advantage to them for •prinjr racing. Mr. C. Tonks has placed the three-year-old half-brother to Partaga, by Tonbridge, in C. Jackson's care. This fellow is well-grown and has a bold striding action in his exercise work that betokens great promise.

The ex-Auckland mare Princess Ronnie has been freely nominated for the principal races to be decided at the .Marton and Wanganui meetings to be held during th® coming month. She failed to win a «take in twelve starts la*t season, although she earned placemoney on three occasions. Her best performance wan a third to Mask and T:wn Hank in the Autumn Handicap at Ellerslie in April last. Princess Ronnie is rmw in her seventh year -and is not likely to improve as a galloper.

Metellus, a three-year-old by Paladin from War Lady, will form one of F. Tilley's team for Marton. Last year he started on a couple of occasions, but failed to run iflto a place.

Singleton is entered for events at Dannevirke and also at Wanganui. He performed well at the recent Gisborne meetings and should be in the money in early spring engagements.

Mataipuke raced well over steeples at the Grand National meeting and figures in the Hunt Club Cup at the Marton meeting next month. He is not meeting a very strong field and should make his presence felt if started in the event.

Star God, the full-brother to Star Stranger, lias been entered for early spring meetings. Last season he started on seven occasions, and his best effort was in running third in a highweight handicap, one mile, at the Wellington summer meeting.

The Night Raid filly trained by W. Dwver at Wanganui is showing a lot of pace, and the other morning beat Ceremony and Alloy over a couple of furlongs run in 26As. She is engaged in the Debutante Stakes, to be decided on the second day of the spring meeting.

Lucy Rose showed a lot of pace as a two-year-old last season, and according to rcporta she has gone on the light way since then. She is among those entered for the Marton and Wanganui meetings, and it' at her bott should not return without some prize money.

Lady's Boy showed a lot of pace last 3'ear, and that he still maintains it was shown at Wanganui on Saturday, when he covered half a mile in 49 4-ss. Last season he won five events and was placed on three othpr occasions. He is entered for the Marton and Wanganui spring fixtures.

Dobbin, who raced very successfully over sprint courses last season, is due to make his first appearance this season at the Marton meeting. Like the majority of the Quin Abbey breed Dobbin can muster up a good dash of pace and he should not be long returning to the winning liet again.

According to Hastings reports The Hawk is to have his first race of the season at the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday. 'He has been awarded 11.12 in the Abbotsford Handicap and, according to reports from Hastings, his owner-trainer, J. Cameron, has decided to start him no matter what the conditions are.

Banket, who is engaged in both open and hack sprint races at the Wanganui meeting, showed a lot of speed"in two-year-old events last season, when she accounted for a couple of juvenile events. Banket, who is trained in the Wairarapa district, is by Psychology from Orofino, and races in the colour* of Mr. C. E. Elgar, of that district.

High Faultin', a three-vear-old by Grandcourt from Table Talk, who is trained by F. Tilley at Fordell, is nominated for the Marton meeting. This gelding only started three times last season and his best -performance was in running third to Episode and The Begum in the Midsummer Handicap at the Auckland summer meeting. That was his last appearance.

Valkon is engaged at the Marton spring meeting, and has been awarded 8.9 in the Marton Handicap and lib less in the Railway. Last season Valkon showed that he could both sprint and stay. He won two events, the last being the Storey Memorial Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, at the Waikato autumn meeting. He lias' not raced since then.

Imperial Spark figures among the entries for early spring meetings. This gelding was started on five occasions last season, but failed to get into the money. Bisox is not in that event at all, though sh? is engaged in the Marton Handicap. Kiosk is also nominated for the Flying Handicap and the Eclipse Stakes at. Wanganui. death of aurumavis. RESULT OF BREAKING A LEG. Advice was received in Auckland this morning that the well-known mare Aurumavis broke a. leg yesterday morning and had to lie destroyed. It appears that she was in the yard attached to her stable, and when a boy went to catch her she commenced to run about and slipped and fell. It was found that <ine of her legs was broken, and she had to be shot.

Aurumavis was an mare by Powhatan. and was owned by Mr. W. H. Evans, of North Auckland, She was a ver y. useful sort, and was just in nice condition to commence the new racincr season. This is very bad luck for her owner.

Now that the two-year-old races are coming along it will perhaps be interesting to give the breeding of some of those entered for the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui. Courtlike is a filly by Grandcourt from Table Talk (the dam of High Falutin'), and was sold by Mr T. H. Lowry for 50gs. Tobacco Land,: a colt by Acre from Puncha, is owned by Mr. H. P. F. Blundell. Alloy a. colt by Thespian from Bronze (the dam of Glenross, Lady Desmond, Grotesque and Co.), is owned by his breeder, Mr. G. M. Currie. Roseglow is a filly by Absurd from Rose Queen (the dam of The Thorn and Ruanui), and was purchased at the last Trenthaml sales for 1075g» by Mr. E. E. Jolly, of Adelaide, who has a team in New Zealand. Syniballo, a filly by Psychology

Gibbons, and is by Paper Money from that good mare Equitas, therefore a sister to Bank Note and a half-sister to Oratress (who won the New Zealand Cup), Equitable and Murihaupo. Rule Britannia is a filly by Chief Ruler from Gladiola, and is the property of Mr. J. McDonald. Mr. E. L. Riddiford has Imperial Guard, a colt by Valkyrian—Whitianga, who cost 250gs, and Insurgent, a gelding by Kilbroney from Zia, who was sold for 225gs at the Trentham sales. Mr. A. B. Williams, who won the event last season with Knightlike, is represented by Hunting Day, by Hunting Song from Gay. Gay is a half-sister to Chortle and is the dam of Olympic, Salamander and others. This youngster cost 2Gogs. Mr. E. V. Riddiford has a black filly engaged named Sapient, by Kilbroney from the English-bred Merit, which he bred himself. This is a first foal. Coon Song, as his name implies, is a black colt bv Hunting Song, his dam being Sangfroid, who is by Polydamon from Sanguinary, who produced Royal Blood. He is also a first foal and cost 140gs. Mr. C. E. Elgar's nomination is a geldby Paladin from Per Arma named Count Palatine. He is a half-brother to the Great Northern Derby winner Martarma and brought C2ogs at the Trentham sales. Valpre is a filly by Chitf Ruler from Valerie, by Hallowmas from Bonny Portland, and was bred by Mr. G. I*. Moore, in whose colours she will race. Mr. T. 11.
