HOWICK AFFAIRS.
TOWN BOARD MEETS. A meeting of the Ho wick Town Boa id was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. J. Crawford presiding. A letter was received from Mr. E. D. McLennan. M.P.. stating that the Minister Internal Affairs approved of the taking over control of domain lands previously vested in a separate board. A decision was made to pay half the cost of forming an approach to the Pmblie Hall.
The question of having a polling booth in Auckland on the occasion of the bleaaial election on September 19 was left la the hands of the returning- officer. It m stated that 300 voters lived in the dtr bat when a booth was provided on otter occasions very few voted at it. It was decided to take steps to deal with straying cattle. The clfrtc reported that a rebate system of five per cent for rates had resnltaf in a more prompt response from ratepayers.
