CRUELTY TO CALVES.
LORRY DRIVER CONVICTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The treatment of "bobby" calves which are being collected for the freezing works was again the subject of a prosecution in the Police Court to-day. The defendant, Percy John Northcott, a lorry driver, collected some calves and placed them on a truck at Opunake, expecting the train to leave the aamy afternoon. However, the train did not leave until about 24 hours later. Northcott was charged by the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal* with not supplying the calves with nourishment. He was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
