RESIGNATION REQUESTED.
TEST MOTION REJECTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DAROAVrLLE, this day. A deputation of six settler's waited on tho R-aupo Drainage Board at its monthly meeting at Rnawai vesterdav and asked that the members of the board resign in a body, on the ground that a meeting of ratepayer* held recently had unanimously declared that it nad 110 confidence in them, because tliev had placed the enginrering side ot • the board's operations in the hand* of the county engineer The suggestion was not taken seriously, and a motion moved in order to te*t the. feeling of the five members, resulted in it bo'ng rejected by three votes to two. The deputation also sought information on the increase in th<i general rate from l§d to 2!&d. It was stated that this had become neces*aiv as the board w now rating on unimproved value. The a'rc.iint of rate ralli-.uJ *:a« actually I'.'ss than previously. The secretary recommended a reduction of %d in the total rates this year. The Minister of Internal Affairs advised the board by telegram that authority to levy rates 011 a uniform scale had been granted. The chief drainage engineer advised that the £.">OO vote was being altered to a free grant on this year's estimate?.
