TASMAN FLIGHT.
PROBABLE DELAY.
Rain At Perth May Cause Flyers To Miss Full Moon. MONTH'S POSTPONEMENT ? (Received 10.30 a.m.) PERTH, this day. More rain precluded the Southern Cross flyers from hopping off from Maylands as they were to do yesterday. It may be two or more days before they can leave. Fears are entertained by SquadrouLeader Kingsford Smith that the New Zealand flight may have to be postponed for another month, especially if they are delayed at Maylands beyond Saturday, in which case they will miss the full moon. SYDNEY, August 21. The fact has just been revealed that Air Chief Sir John Salmond, of Britain, narrowly escaped a crash while he whs flying from Sydney to Brisbane on Sunday in a Supermarine aeroplane. Immediately after the start the 'plane waa passing over Manly, when a wireless aerial suspended from it struck the side weather-board of a house and also broke the electric light wires. The residents in the house say a terrific report followed and the clectrie supply was interrupted in the locality. Eye-witnesses state that the 'plane was very low and appeared to be hardly able to rise clear of the houses. The machine alighted on the sea off Manly, presumably for an overhaul, and then proceeded on its journey. It reached Brisbane in the afternoon.
