ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

AUCKLAND AFFAIRS. MANAGEMENT MEETING. QUEEN CARNIVAL PROPOSED. There was a large attendance of club delegates at the ■weekly meeting of the A.F.A. last night, Mr. Andrew Menzies presiding. A protest by the Newmarket Club against the playing of Wilson, a senior grade player, for the Ponsonby second grade club was upheld, and the game was awarded to Newmarket. The draw for the second round of the Dacre Cup resulted as follows :—Newmarket v. Rangers or Glen Eden, Corinthians v. Tamaki, North Shore v. Manurewa, Birkenhead v. Philomel. The draw for the third grade knockout competition is as follows: —Y.M.C.A. v. Birkenhead, W.Y.M.I. v. Mount Albert, Belmont v. New Lynn, Swanson a bye. The Auckland Girls' Athletic Association was granted permission to sell badges at Blandford Park on Saturdays. A proposal to carry through a queen carnival was discussed at a meeting of the management and delegates from the senior clubs, and was enthusiastically received. It was decided that the project be launched forthwith and carried through before the close of the season. In order to obtain the fullest co-operation of all the clubs in the A.F.A., it was agreed to call a special meeting of all club delegates for Monday evening next in the Y.M.C.A. In reply to a question by a delegate, the hon. treasurer assured the meeting that the association was in a position to meet promptly the debenture interest payment on October 1.

SOUTiH AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.

HAMILTON, Tuesday. At a meeting of the South Auckland Football Association, the Waikato Hockey Association advised that they would sanction the use of Steele Park for the Brown Shield game against North Auckland, and the committee confirmed their previous resolution to play the match there. Mr. F. W. Mead was appointed team manager, and Mr. James Baillie the South Auckland linesman.

The Howden Cup draw resulted: —Wanderers, a bye; Huntly v. Puhe Junction, on September 1. The final will be played in Hamilton on September 8. The Lee Martin Cup match will be played between the veteran players of Huntly and Hamilton on September 22 at Huntly. A trial match between the two Hamilton veteran teams will be played as a curtainraiser to the Howden Cup final.

SCHOOLBOY REPS.

WEBSTER SHIELD. HUNTLY. this day. The first match for the Websier Shield between Waikato Schools and Manawatu Schools was won by Waikato by 5 goals to 0. Waikato had the best of the game throughout. Robinson scored one goal and Spence four. For Waikato, Spence and Marshall were the outstanding players, and for Manawatu, Lodge and Marshall. Wellington, the holders, were beaten by Auckland by 1 goal to 0 after an interesting game. Auckland were superior on the day's play. Miles scored the only goal. Prominet for Auckland were Hayward, Frazer and Yarnton, and for Wellington, O'Deay, Vaney and McKic. Auckland will meet Waikato to-day.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.

CHATHAM CUP FINAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The council of the New Zealand Football Association met to-night. It was agreed that the match between Wellington and Otago for the Football Association Trophy should take place on September 1. subject to suitable arrangements being made. Arrangements for the final of the Chatham Cup, Pet one v. Northern (Dunedin) at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday have been completed. The GovernorGeneral and the Prime Minister have been invited to be present. The cup, at present in the possession of Ponsonby, Auckland, is to be telegraphed for in order that it may be presented to the winners at the close of the match. Owing to the financial position. It was decided to write to nine associations pressing for payment of subscriptions.
