SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A very pleasant flag 500 afternoon was given by the Ellerslie croquet ladies yesterday afternoon. Mesdames Christmas, Chapman, Richmond and Gollan acted as joint hostesses, and dispensed a dainty afternoon tea. Among the guests were: Mesdames Somerville, Bennett, Aitken, Diggens, McKelvie, Meredith, S. Cole, Gillies, Kelly, Cannon, J. Impen, White, Baxter, Darby.

The Auckland Highland and National Dancing Society held a very successful fancy dress ball and dance on Monday evening in o"Neil Street Hall, Ponsonby, there being a very large attendance. Prizes were offered for the best costumes and the children had a very enjoyable time. At nine o'clock the adults' dance commenced and with the spot waltz and Monte Carlo dance and many others the adults also passed a pleasant evening.

A very pleasing and deserved presentation was made to Mrs. A. E. Dunningham at the morning service at the Church of the Ascension, Point Chevalier, on Sunday. The presentation was in the form of an illuminated address, suitably framed, a handsome one, prepared and executed by the Brett Printing Company, setting forth Mrs. Dunningham's faithfulness to the work of the Sunday School since its inception. The address was signed by the vicar—Rev. W. E. Gillam, the superintendent—Mr. N. Owens, and Miss A. E. Feild, secretary. _ The presentation was made by the vicar.

A kitchen evening was held at the residence of Mrs. Anderson, Norana Avenue, Remuera, last Saturday in honour of Miss May Edwards. Mrs. Anderson received her guests attired in navy blue crepe de chine, Miss Edwards wore tangerine satin. Amongst those present were Miss J. Ward, black charnieuse; Miss T. Hartley, black velvet and red crepe de chine; Miss A. Anderson, green crepe de cliine and black Spanish shawl; Miss M. Ward, black georgette with rose applique; Miss M. Gordon, coral georgette and lace; Miss M. Anderson, floral georgette; Miss L. Ward, autumn tinted crepe de chine. Some pleasant musical and humorous items were rendered by Messrs. Hollaway and Fine, the rest of the evening being spent in dancing and in games.

Misses Marna and Erena Bishop were hostesses at a delightful bridge party Jiolrl at their home in Disraeli Street, .Mount Eden, last evening. The rooms wore charmingly arranged with large golden daffodils, and a most enjoyable time was spent. Hiss SJrirna Bishop wore a frock of ecru lace. Miss Erena Bishop was in b>.ck velvet with fur trimming, and Miss Zena Bishop wore navy satin. Amongst the players were: Mrs. Eric Waters, Mr«. T. H. Harrison. Miss Ailsa Hacket.
