MONTREAL, August 13.
The voyage of H.M.A.s. Australia fvom Portsmouth to Montreal was not without incident, and one *occurrenc< bore eloquent testimony to the presence of mind of the ship's complement and the navigational qualities of the officers. Heavy weather was encountered and a petty officer was washed overboard during the storm. The sea was too rough to launch a lifeboat, though one was immediately manned by volunteers. The ship was stopped and circled round the helpless sailor. A "Jacob's ladder" was lowered and the cruiser was steered alongside the swimming man, who was able to catch hold of the lower rung He was assisted by another officer and an area line was thrown to him. - He was brought aboard little the worse for his experience. Following the arrival of the Australia the officers and crew were officially welcomed by Mayor Mr. Houde and prominent ci .izens. Later Rear-Admiral Hyde returned the visit to the City Hall. On Sunday the officers and men took part in a church parade and later attended a baseball game.
