DAYLIGHT SAVING.
SUFFERER SUPPORTS THE CHAHGR
(To t!>o Editor.)
It. is regretted that the request at th« daylight saving meeting for more renreL.* tion from other than --port* bodies , ! to the belief that it was a n.eJ* bodies. • rhoucrh there were ten diff bodies represented, they were not different sports b,*lie> " Tennis, golf, cricket rowing, swimming and all the in? tl ib, m the a~sociark.il were entirely unrepresented, and the majority present not sports representatives. I can svmnatV with "Anti-Sideyas I. thoush gjjjj circumstances, was unemployed for over S months hts t slimmer directly and solely due to tne effect or daylight on mv 'tnA -Nevertheless. I .till advocate d'avlight gariS" as I realise that the national advantages f|r outweigh my personal hardships. Anv opSminded per-on w,ll admit that an hour JEL in the healtn-giving open air is of more advantage to the worker than the same time and money spent indoors on luxuries. Th» decreased cost of living due to lower bills at home, as well as in factories, warts houses and shops: the decreased traffic acci dents due to the five o'clock rush takin°- place' in broad daylight; the improved health of school children, as reported by the visitin* Departmental doctors; the lessened risk damage to life and property through working in daylight until after ei-ht p.m.. as on the wharf and in railway yards; and the general increased efficiency in almost all branches of * manufacturing—all these when considered dispassionately far outweigh the disadvantages to restaurants and theatres, which are only temporary and will adjust themselves as ia England. America and on the Continent. Tha admission of lack of parental control of their children by a few Auckland mothers is not ia any way connected with daylight saving, aa in the past and even now in places when long twilight prevails, children go to" bed at bedtime and not when it gets too dark to play which in some places is not until midnight t. Mcknight, Hon. Secretary. Daylight Saving Committee.
