The Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting was opened to-day in line weather and befoie a large attendance. The course was in summer condition. The totalisator handled £39,708, against £37,058 on the opening day last year. Peterwah won the August Handicap, the big race of the day, in 4.23 4-5, a world's record for two miles for an unhoppled trotter. The Square Gaiters. Tamerlane was the only scratching in the Stewards' Handicap. Kempton carried most money, the next best backed being Sister Beatrice and Cannonball. Swiftbine broke up at the start. At the end of a furlong Our Lady was in front, with Kerrwood Belle, Duke Bingen, Xighborn and Kempton in close attendance. There was not much change at the end of six furlongs, where Duke Bingen and Our Lady went on together, witli Kempton and Kerrwood Belle handy, while Master Audo was not l'ar away. Starting on the last lap Duke Bingen was in charge, followed by Kempton, Our Lady and Kerrwood Belle, who were at the head of a bunch, with Sister Beatrice and Elzear moving up. Three furlongs from home Kempton was in charge, "with Kerrwood Belle, Sister Beatrice and Elzear next. Sister Beatrice took second place on reaching the straight, but Kempton beat her by a short length. Elzear was three lengths away, a length in fronts. of Kerrwood Belle, with Money Spider close up. Favourite Wina. Bing Boy, King Pointer, Loch Moigh, and Native Prince did not start in the Queen Mary Handicap. On the totalisator Jackie Audubon was best favoured, followed by Vesuvius and. Trimmer. Then Ariki moved up, and starting on the last lap he joined Trimmer in the lead, with Macaranda, Jackie Audubon and Parkwood at the head of the others. Turning into the back straight Trimmer shot out with Macaranda and Jackie Audubon next. Two lengths further back Billy Sea got up to beat Trimmer by a neck.

On reaching the straight Native Prince moved up on the outside, and went on to win very easily by two lengths from Avenger, with Orphan two lengths further back. High ■finks was fourth. Another to Auckland.
