AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

to the cost of the Racing Conference amounted to only nhout half of what the Auckland Club paid, were granted extra assistance from stipendiary stewards and racecourse inspectors without additional cost, but when the Auckland committee asked to be similarly treated they were coollv informed by the conference that they could only have the services of an extra man by further payment. The club was evidently looked on as purelv a milch cow and was certainly being treated as such, and this in fact applied to the whole Auckland metropolitan area, but. notwithstanding all this, the committee were still prepared to bury the past and carry on. in the hope that Auckland's claims would be treated with more consideration and respect in the future, and perhaps, by means ot round table talks from time to time, all likelihood of cause for complaint removed.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. r c A SUCCESSFUL SEASON. c < The annual meeting of the Auckland ' Racing Club wag held at the Chamber j of Commerce this afternoon. The I president, Sir Edwin Mitchelson, pre- ' sided, and there was a good attendance 1 of members. j In moving the adoption of the annual , report and balance-sheet, already pub- 1 lished in the "Star," the president eon- 1 <rratulated members on the success of 1 • 1 last racing season's operations, which had resulted in a profit of £15,077. After having written off for depreciation £13,155, an amount of £1922 remained to be carried forward to capital account, which now stood at £119,71ti. It must be pleasing to members to know that the value of the club's freehold property, purchased more than half a century ago, stood in the club's books at the original purchase price, plus more recent purchases of freehold property which became necessary in order to keep pace with public and racing requirements. The committee, in framing up the programme for the year 1928-29, had reverted to eight races per day for the spring meeting. There would still only be seven races per day at the winter meeting. The amount paid away in stakes during the past season amounted

to £04.200, in addition to £310 in sweepstakes which was provided by owners.
