NORTHCOTE MAIN ROADS.

EXTENSION OF CONCRETE PAVING. HIGHWAYS AUTHORITY TO DECIDE. In connection -with a scheme submitted to the Xo. 1 District Highways Council for the concrete paving of Onewa Road and Lake Koad to the resj>ectivc western and Northern boundaries of the Northcote borough, the engineer, Mr. .A. Greville Walker last evening intimated to the Borough Council that he had accompanied Mr. J. M Ennis, Public Works Engineer and chairman of the No. 1 District Council, on a visit of inspection of both roads. The whole scope of the proposals had been discussed in detail, and the suggested straightening of the Lake Road was ravourabK commented upon. It was agreed that the bridge near the Takapuna riding boundary would require to be reconstructed, £840 being added to the estimated cost t-o provide for this. The council's scheme was to be considered at this week's meeting of the No. 1 High..ays Council, which would be opened to-morrow at Whangarei. If this body approved the proposals, they would be referred to the Main Highways B«_. d at Wellington for final consideration. The Mayor (Mr. A. E.
