"EDUCATIONAL VALUES."
LECTURE BY VISITOR. Dr. J. J. Van Der Leeuw, of Ley den University, lectured to a large audience at the Theosophical Hall last evening, his subject being "Educational Values." The speaker said that it was no use having educational authorities who agreed upon the principles of a new education unless they received the whole-hearted support of parents, as training for an examination was not training for life. The need throughout the world was vocational training. Education should be attractive, and the first qualification of a teacher was the gift of educating. The 6econd gift w r as powers of observation. By starting with practical things children were taught to theorise. He urged the abolition of corporal punishment of children.
