REDUCTION IN STAKES.
PROGRAMME FOR NEW SEASON.
The committee of the Auckland Racing Club held a special meeting yesterday afternoon, when the programme for next season's racing at Ellerslie was decided. The stake? to be given will amount to £61,000, which is £2000 less than this season, but still several thousand pounds above that which is required by the Rules of Racing. 1 It was decided to revert to «ight races per day at the spring meeting, and two new event? have been added. One is the Trial Hurdle Race, of 400sovs (hack conditions), one mile and three-quarters, and it will form the first event of the meeting. The other is the Hobson Hahdicap, of 400sovs (hack conditions), one mile and a-quarter, and it will be the seventh event on the second day. Future classics, for which nominations will be taken next June, have been reduced altogether by £2000. The races which have been pruned to the greatest extent are:— £ t ailtchelson Cup, to 1500, formerly 2,000 King Edward Memorial Hand., to. 800, „ 1,000 King's Plate, to 500, „ 600 Summer Cup, to 1,250, „ 1,400 A.R.C. Handicap, to • 1,750, „ 2,000 Easter Handicap, to 1,500, „ 1,750 Hula Handicap, to 750, „ 900 G.N. Hurdle Race, to 1.750, „ 2,000 Winter Steeples, to 1,000, „ 1,250 The Great Northern Steeplechase remains at £2000. Reductions in future classic races are: ' £ £ G.N. Foal Stakes, to 1,250. formerly 1,500 G.N. Champg. Stks., to 1,000, ~ 1,500 G.N. Guineas, to 1,000, „ 1,500 G.N. Derby, to 2,500, „ 3,000 St. Leger Stakes, to 750, „ 1,000 The Onehunga Steeplechase, run at the Spring Meeting, has been altered to carry' hack conditions, and the stake reduced to £400.
