Mrs. Ruby E. Watson entertained the members of the Civic League at her residence, "Ahimsa," St. Helier's Bay. yesterday, to enable the members to more fully discuss the various social activities that the league is busy with. There weretwenty tables, and the game was keen and much enjoyed. Mesdames Mowbray, Bowden and Goldwater were the hostesses. The prize winners were: Ladies, highest score, Mrs. A. O'Neill; runner-up. Miss Berry. Men: winner, Mr. H. Everton; runner-up, Mr. Mulligan. The holders of the * nearest to the hidden numbers were Mrs. Allnutt •nd Mr. J. W. Williamson, the Mayor. • • • • A private party was given yesterday afternoon at the Lyceum Clnb, when Mrs. McMillan and "Mrs. Perreau wtre the point hostesses at a bridge afternoon. The decorations were bowls of fine yellow narcissi. The former received her guests in black satin marocain. black panne hat, trimmed with gold lame; Mrs. Perreau wore a bois de rose silk crepe de chine, panne velvet hat. Among the guests were: Mrs. Hay ward, Mrs. Brown,' Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Holdness. Mrs. Gardiner, Mrs. Owen, Mrs. Phillips. Mrs. McCoy, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Busche, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Woollams, Mrs. Isaacs, Mrs. Short, Mrs. Wickstead, Miss Bell, Miss Gardiner. * * * * The sale of work held in St. Mark's Hall yesterday in aid of funds for the Sunbeam Kindergarten in Virginia Street proved most successful. The bazaar was well attended and business was very brisk. The stall holders were: Work stall, Mrs. S. Harnwell, Mrs. Kidd, Mrs. W. Garrett, Mrs. Sadler, and Mrs. Ryder; cake stall, Mrs. B. W. Patterson and Mrs. Stokes; produee stall, Mrs. C. B. Plummer, Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Kirk, and Miss D. Morton ; sweets stall, Mrs. W. McKean and Mrs. Farrell; bran tnb and Jack Horner me, Mrs A Campbell; afternoon tea, Mr* Stuart Milne, Miss Gannaway, and Miss Duncan. The stalls looked most attr ? arranged with masses of paper flowe" and greenery. In the evening an amusing little one-act play entitled Between the Soup and the Savoury" was presented. Newman and Miss Baigent, of Nelson, who are spending a holiday in Auckland. Ihe decoration scheme was effectively carried out with gaily coloured electric festoons and streamers, ferns, and banks of spring flowers. The hostess received her guests in a graceful gown of flame satin and georgette, with shawl to match. Among those "present were: Mrs. A. H. Cramp, wearing black crepe de chine with silver beading; Mrs. T. J. Cole, black georgette, iridescent beading; Mrs. G. L. Cole, wistaria mauve crepe de chine, diamante trimmings; Mrs. A. 0. Glasse, silver embossed eau de nil; Mrs. I. J. Howell, apple green crepe de chine; Mrs. C. M. Rich-White, mole ring velvet, Hudson fox fur; Mrs. Fredrick Stubbs, black taffeta and tulle; Miss B. Baigent, blue shot tal> feta; Miss R. Newman, powder blue taffeta with net trimmings.

The liouse, which lends itself to entertaining, was prettily decorated with numerous bowls of early daffodils, violets and pink stock, shaded pink lighting effects and the glow of large wood fires, making an attractive ensemble. The hostess received her guests in geranium accordionpleated crepe de chine. Mrs. Chapman wore black panne velvet; Mrs. Corsie, navy blue crepe de chine; Mrs. McArtney, black ring velvet; Mrs. Haniner, cerise georgette; Mrs. Ready, black crepe de chine; Mrs. Bullock, fawn marocain ensemble suit; Mrs. Pembath, black Lido crepe; Mrs. Webster, beige crepe de chine; Mrs. Griffiths, biscuit panne velvet trimmed with fur Mrs. Scott, tomato crepe de chine; Mrs. Eenton, black cloth ensemble suit; Mrs. Moody, black satin chaminade, with fur; Mrs. Pope, deep apricot jersey cloth suit; Mrs. Watson, cerise georgette with grey lame bridge coat; Miss Ashton, black panne velvet suit; Miss D. Martin, cinnamon cloth coat frock.
